Education and Training
Our Aim Is to Strengthen Democracy by Empowering Records Professionals
Education and training are the heart of our work. Our aim is to strengthen democracy by empowering records professionals to play a key role in managing their governments’ records as evidence to support access to information, national development, services to citizens, citizens’ rights, and preservation of the national historical memory. We are committed to building awareness and understanding of the significance of records for governance among government stakeholders. Our educational activities are informed by our ongoing cycle of research, education and training, and consultancy services.
Our Study Programmes are Available without Charge
Our two programmes, Management of Public Sector Records Study (MPSR) programme and the Training in Electronic Records Management (TERM) programme, were developed to support countries where professional educational tools in the field of records and information management are hard to obtain. Educators are welcome to use this material to develop new courses, supplement existing courses or develop new teaching materials. All our Education and Training material can be downloaded free of charge.
We plan to continue developing and expanding our educational materials, particularly in response of the challenges of managing records as technology changes. We do not offer accredited courses, but we can help develop and deliver special courses or arrange study tours in the UK or elsewhere.
African Textbook Project
We support academics and students by providing textbooks to African universities that teach records and archives management courses. We also provide books for the reference libraries of national archive institutions to help staff continue their professional development.
Let us know if you can help. We can receive donations via PayPal or cheques by post. We are also keen to receive textbooks in good condition published after 1995; we can forward them to our partners in Africa.
See a list of organisations (2013) that have received books under the scheme.
Centre of Excellence
Ultimately, we hope that a wider set of activities can be initiated to support a pan-African academic network for records and archives management, associated with a Centre of Excellence for Digital Records Management at the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute. Watch the short video below describing the issues we want to address.
